The Ransom Stiles House
Description
Built in 1820, this beautiful example of Federal style architecture sits prominently at 55 Main Street in the Village. Home of Ransom Stiles a prominent merchant, town supervisor and noted abolitionist. Stiles’ involvement in abolition and accounts from residents in the 1950s who saw tunnels leading from the house to the Moseskill River give compelling evidence that this home was part of the Underground Railroad. The brick home is cared for and under restoration by residents to be used as a community center.
View at 55 Main St, Argyle.
