Several of the trails and paths in Washington County were created to accommodate walking, running and cycling that stretch halfway across the county and tie into other counties. There are miles and miles of brooks, streams, ponds, and lakes throughout the county. Grab a friend and get lost in the miles and miles of beautiful landscapes that is Washington County.

Peaked
Rock Trail

This trail is very steep between .05 and 1.1 miles from the trailhead where it climbs 700 feet in .06 miles. Right off of Route 313, there are no fees and no tours offered. Go experience nature for yourself where deer and turkey are abundant, resident ravens and barred owls are sure to entertain you. If you are lucky you may get to see a bear or two.

Battenkill
State Forest

Located in Cambridge, NY this trail is 2 ½ miles, 983 acres of mixed forest and views of Washington County farmland, the terrain is rugged but the views are amazing. Meandering along Snake Ridge, the trail provides an opportunity to explore the state forest. The trail leads to Peaked Rock another trail located in the forest and the Battenkill River. This moderate hike yields rewarding views of Washington County.

Buck Mountain
Trailhead

Buck Mountain Trail is a 5.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail. The first mile of the hike is on a primarily wide trail with a slight grade. The descent through mile 2 becomes steeper and has rocky sections with a few easy stream crossings.  The views slowly start to come during the last mile or so of the hike as the canopy recedes and the rocky scrambles begin.The view from the summit is well worth the hike.

Sleeping
Beauty Mountain

Sleeping Beauty Mountain trail is on the east side of Lake George and is a moderate hike with a few steeper switchbacks. The length of the climb depends on the starting point, and can vary between 5 and 7.5 miles, round-trip. The hike is family friendly and older children. The two starting points are the Hogtown Trailhead and the Dacy Clearing Trailhead. The Hogtown trailhead is first, and a 1.5 mile dirt road connects it to Dacy Clearing.
