The Hiking Trail at New Skete Monastery
Description
Should you ever find yourself near our monastery, you are most welcome to visit and pray with us or simply to have some quiet time for reflection. The Nuns are located about 2 miles east of the village of Cambridge, New York, the Monks are about 4 miles further east. The Nuns of New Skete are famous for their delicious cheesecakes available in their gift shop or online. The Monks of New Skete are renowned for their raising of German Shepherd dogs, for their dog training and books both religious and secular. New Skete is a member of the OCA - Orthodox Church in America.
New Skete Monastery offers day visits, group tours, retreats, and numerous events including an Open House, Annual Pilgrimage, Blessing of the Animals festival, and various religious and dog related workshops.
Our churches, gardens, bell tower, and hiking trail are open for self-guided tours, Tuesday through Sunday, closed Monday. The grounds are closed during community retreat times (mid-August through mid-September), and our mid-winter retreat (usually in February, check our calendar for specific dates).
