FIBER “GROWN” HERE

Ever see sheep dotting the Washington County countryside and think to yourself, “They could help me with my next knitting project”? We do! While it doesn’t make up as much of the market as dairy and meat production, there are dozens of fiber farmers in our county. It’s a wonderful, sustainable way to make use of animal wool and hair that must be removed anyway. Plus, once spun, it can be used to create high-quality heirloom goods. What’s not to love!

FIBER TOUR

Take in the springtime sights on this annual self-guided tour of local fiber farms and mills. Each farm family showcases their prized pets and offers different free events. Enjoy spinning, knitting, weaving, and felting demonstrations while you visit the animals: alpacas, bunnies, goats, sheep and lambs, llamas, and more! Plus, take home your favorite items. Many farms have handspun and dyed yarns, unique woven and knitted items, and high-quality fleeces for sale.

WOOL & ARTS FESTIVAL

This annual fall event brings together farmers, fiber producers, and artists to showcase the versatility of wool and other animal fibers. There are more than 100 vendors selling finished products and supplies, herding and sheep shearing demonstrations, and how-to classes to help inspire you to try a fiber craft!
