Between the ample farmland, orchards, and slate deposits, the town is dotted with charming, historic homes dating back centuries. It is also home to a chapel built in 1848 by William Miller, the founder of the Millerites, which began the Adventist Christian Movement. Ascension Rock and the chapel are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF HAMPTON
1700s
The first European settlers of Hampton are believed to have been from Massachusetts and Connecticut, well before the Revolution. The town was formed in 1786, but the area was part of a jurisdictional dispute between New York and Vermont that wasn’t settled until after 1790.
1800s
American farmer, Baptist preacher, and founder of the Millerites, William Miller spent most of his life in and around the Hampton area. After struggling with his faith for many years, Miller discovered what he believed to be the time of Christ’s Second Coming in Bible prophecy. His teachings would give rise to the Adventist movement, including the Advent Christians (1860), the Seventh-day Adventists (1863), and more.
Today
Today, the town is made up of 4 smaller communities: the hamlet of Hampton, Hampton Corners, Hampton Flats, and Low Hampton.
