1700s

A village at the crossroads, what is known today as Cambridge was established in the late 1700s as a hub for travelers, providing lodging, stores, and churches. It was once part of Albany County until it was transferred to Washington County in 1791.

1800s

The once-quiet rural community was given greater access to surrounding cities when the Albany & Rutland Railroad came to town, connecting Cambridge to Rutland, VT in the north, and New York’s Capital District to the South. The village was incorporated in 1866, combining the hamlets of Cambridge and North White Creek.
