
Easton
Easton is a beautiful agricultural community in the Hudson River Valley. From the mountains on the east to the Hudson River on the west, the beauty is enhanced by the patchwork of fields and wood lots. There are more than 30 farms in the small town!
Easton boasts a variety of agricultural businesses. Visitors can enjoy locally grown produce available at many farm stands, locally made ice cream, world-famous hand melons, golf courses, picturesque views and, in the winter, Willard Mountain, the only ski destination in Washington County!
Easton is also home to one of the county’s most exciting events: the Washington County Fair!

The History of Easton, NY

1700s
The town of Easton was formed in 1789 from the towns of Saratoga and Stillwater. Much of Easton’s history is connected with the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. As such, the town played a significant role in the Underground Railroad Movement, acting as a major route through Washington County, and was home to several safe houses.
1800s
Women’s Rights leader, Susan B. Anthony, spent many of her early years in Easton. At 13 she joined the Easton Society of Friends (Quakers), and later she taught school in Easton for $1.00 a week.

1900s
Easton was also the birthplace of folk artist, Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson Moses), known for capturing the life she knew as a frugal farm woman. Although Moses was creative in her home, it wasn’t until the age of 78 that she discovered folk painting.
Today
The small town center of Easton sits above the rolling hills of Washington County, and many historic buildings remain in use. Our agricultural community is vast, and features everything from dairy and cattle farms, wineries and distilleries, a ski resort, and much more.
