WELCOME TO

KINGSBURY

Located on the Champlain Canal, Kingsbury is one of the most populated communities in New York’s Washington County. While rich with rural, agricultural charm, the town is conveniently located near major Upstate New York cities, including Glens Falls, Saratoga, and Queensbury.

ABOUT KINGSBURY

At the center of it all is Hudson Falls, Kingsbury’s village with its own unique character and experience. In a more architectural vein, the National Register of Historical Places has listed the Town of Kingsbury as a location with a display of intact 19th Century architecture. Also listed are the popular Five Combines locks on the Feeder Canal Towpath Trail. Grab the Village walking tour map to explore these sites for yourself!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF KINGSBURY

1700s

Named after a small parish on the western outskirts of London, the town of Kingsbury was chartered in
1762. The town’s first European settlers moved into the area to establish sawmill businesses.

1800s

In 1823, the Champlain Canal was opened, followed in 1833 by the Glens Falls Feeder Canal. This influenced the major industries of Kingsbury including farming, milling, mining, and logging.

1900s

The village of Sandy Hill was renamed to Hudson Falls, which remains a major downtown area and center of the community. The discovery of Bluestone and limestone in the area led to another manufacturing boom. Kingsbury was home to two major quarries,
until the mid-1940s.

Today

So much more than a stop along the route to Lake George or Glens Falls, Kingsbury is both a bustling town and an agricultural haven. You can see national touring musicians and
performances at the Strand Theater, visit Baker’s Falls on the Hudson River,
New York’s second largest falls after Niagra, or catch a concert in the park.
