Amazing things to see in Washington County, NY. Washington County attractions create an authentic Upstate New York experience, from cheese and wine tours, museums, live theatre and opera. Whether you are looking for a relaxing afternoon  or a thrill seeker there is something for everyone in Washington County, NY.


There are so many things to see in Washington County. Start your morning by visiting all four of the historic covered bridges that Washington County has to offer.

Along your journey stop for a treat at Dry Brook Sugar House. You can also take a wagon ride to see how they tap their trees and learn about the different trees. You will see how syrup, candy and cream are made. Have a picnic on their property and they will service the vanilla ice cream and warm maple syrup.


Spend your afternoon at the Battenkill Conservancy, learning about the Washington County land and exploring the river. After you are done, head over to Battenkill Books and get lost in the rich history. If you don’t feel like being outside or if the weather is not cooperating head over to the Slate Valley Museum and learn all about the Slate Valley region. The Slate Valley Museum offers an exciting range of different programs, exhibitions, and special events that focus on the geology of slate and the history of slate quarrying and quarrying community in New York and Vermont.


There are so many great down home restaurants to choose from. One we suggest is The Boar’s Nest Bar & Grill, incredible pub style food and homemade pizzas with live entertainment on the weekends.

Take advantage of the many live theatre productions that Washington County has to offer. Spend an evening at the historic fort salem theatre or enjoy the outdoors at the little theatre on the farm. Not really into theatre? Head over to Hubbard Hall where you can listen to Opera or Classical music from the music of salem.

Taste Itinerary

The restaurants in Washington County, NY offer a variety of cuisines and ambiance, perfect for whatever your taste buds desire. Several of the restaurants have historic pasts that date back to the early 19th century, old fashion carhops, evoke the 50’s and various family owned dairy bars open seasonally that have been family favorites for generations. Whether you are looking for casual, formal, ethnic, or classic, Washington County has something for everyone to taste and enjoy.


Start your morning with a delicious breakfast at Pine Grove Diner, you will feel like family at this family owned and staffed diner. After breakfast head on over to New Skete Monastery and explore all of the amazing things they have to offer. But before you leave make sure you try one of their famous cheesecakes made by the nuns themselves.


For lunch we suggest going over to Skene Manor and enjoying lunch in a historically preserved Victorian castle that overlooks Lake Champlain and the Village of Whitehall. After lunch spend your afternoon on the Washington County Cheese, Beer and Wine tour. A free drive-yourself tour through Washington County, NY. Just north of Albany and you will be able to visit, see and taste all the cheese, wine and beer these farms have to offer.


For the rest of the evening we suggest visiting the different wineries or breweries that Washington County have to offer. Have a romantic date night eating grapes at Victory View Vineyard or Amorici Vineyard and learn how they make their wine.

Explore Itinerary

There are so many things to explore in Washington County, NY. Spend a morning apple picking at one of our many orchards, followed by an afternoon sipping Chardonnay and eating cheese on one of our many Wine & Cheese tours. And then enjoy a relaxing evening at one of our many bed and breakfast locations. There is something for everyone to explore in Washington County.


Start your morning off with a hike through The Feeder Canal, a seven-mile Linear park bringing water from the Hudson River to the Champlain Canal and is accessible by water, foot or bike. Grab a bucket and head over to one of the many orchards that Washington County has and go apple picking.


We then suggest heading over to the Champlain Canal and enjoying a nice picnic by the docks. Enjoy some of those delicious apples you picked by the water.

Depending on when you visit Washington County we suggest going to the Washington County Fair it has been awarded as New York’s #1 Agricultural County Fair. If it is not fair week we suggest going to Betterbee. Take a beekeeper class/workshop and learn how they care for their bees. You can get right into the action by suiting up and seeing the bees first hand. After that visit their gift shop and take some honey home with you.


We suggest a romantic dinner at Dancing Ewe Farm. Italian inspired, you are going to get the best meal of your life. Dancing Ewe Farm produces authentic Italian Cheeses and Olive Oil. The family goes back to Tuscany every year to enhance their recipes.

After dinner we suggest watching the sunset on Lake Hadlock or Lake Champlain. Grab a bottle of wine from one of the many local breweries and sit under the stars for a romantic and relaxing evening.
