A BRIEF HISTORY OF FORT ANN
1600s
Fort Ann acted as a major hub for soldiers throughout history, as the midpoint between Lake Champlain and the Hudson River, and the route linking the French and English colonies.
1700s
The town and village of Fort Ann were named for the fort built during Queen Anne’s War. Decades later, Fort Ann became the location of a major turning point battle of the Revolutionary War. British forces encountered significant resistance from a small contingent at Fort Ann. Their sabotage delayed the British advance long enough for Colonial forces to mount a successful defense at Saratoga and turn the tide of war in America’s favor.
Today
This small-yet-scenic town has become quite the tourism destination. Its convenient location on Lake George makes it the perfect place to stay outside the village, plus Hadlock Pond boasts great waterside stays, too. Also in Fort Ann are trailheads for a number of hiking trails, including Sleeping Beauty and Buck Mountains.
