Dip Into Lake George at Huletts Park

Did you know? Washington County cradles the southern end of Lake George, and there’s no better place to enjoy this view of the “Queen of the American Lakes” than Huletts Park!

This county-owned park is open only on weekends from late May to late June. Then, from late June to the beginning of September, Huletts Park is open 7 days a week, with beach access (and a lifeguard) available from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Beyond providing an excellent place to swim, relax with a book and enjoy the views, this park also features a dock for launching canoes, kayaks or other small hand-carried boats.

Additionally, your friends and family can enjoy other classic summer activities at this park, including basketball, volleyball, horseshoes and playing on the swings! Then, once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can fire up Huletts’ grills for a hot meal, or bring a picnic along to enjoy on one of the many picnic benches.

Nearby, you’ll also find the Huletts Landing Marina, offering locally-made gifts and snacks as well as a growler beer station and fresh local foods! Tired after a long day? Call to ask about the Marina’s three rental apartments with stunning views of the lake. Or, for a special experience, reserve a campsite on Lake George and take advantage of Huletts Marina’s boat launch services and car parking while you enjoy your stay!

Swim, Tube & Kayak In the World-Famous Battenkill

Known for its clear waters and scenic beauty, the Battenkill (or Batten Kill) has quickly become one of the best-kept secrets of the Northeast! Not only is it a world-class spot for flyfishing, but this river also offers numerous access points for swimming, tubing and kayaking along its banks.

In Shushan, NY, you’ll find what many locals say is one of the best spots on the whole river for both swimming AND fishing for trout: Buffum’s/Tackle Box Bridge. When the water is high during the summer, some brave folks even jump off the steel bridge into the water in the deepest part of the river! Please exercise caution if visiting with small children and pets, as the Battenkill’s current can be strong.

Swimming Holes Beneath a Covered Bridge

While many of our covered bridges arch over the Battenkill, these unique swimming holes deserve their own special category!

First, the Eagleville Covered Bridge is a popular spot with the locals, who often bring their children and pets along to take a dip in the river’s cool waters. After parking alongside the road or in the small grassy parking area, it’s a short stroll downhill to the area’s sandy beach. Those with a more adventurous streak may want to try out the rope swing dangling from a nearby tree!

Want to experience this region in a different way? Book a custom on-the-water excursion with Battenkill Valley Outdoors, whose trips often end at the Eagleville bridge!

A short drive away you’ll find the Rexleigh Covered Bridge. There, visitors can park along the road and follow the banks down to the river, where they’ll find a quiet swimming area with a small beach to enjoy this unique historic backdrop.

Soak in the Scenery at The Georgi Park & Museum

Looking for a great dog-friendly option? Then you’ll want to visit the gorgeous and historic Georgi Park and Museum! This quiet destination is perfectly situated with the river surrounding it on three sides. There, you’ll find a lush landscape of flowers leading the way to the banks of the Battenkill. With several different spots to enter the water, visitors are given a range of unique views of this beautiful property. Truly, a visit to the Georgi is a perfect way to spend a warm summer afternoon.

Since the Battenkill’s bottom is often rocky, water shoes are recommended.
